In Independent Study, crucial research skills were taught.

First, there was the Questionnaire module, which developed the art of writing a useful questionnaire. Secondly, transcribing, deepened my understanding of transcribing the spoken language effectively, for substantial analysis. The literature reviews module emphasised the importance of using relevant sources, tactfully and persuasively to support an argument.

The final module the corpus investigation, emphasised the corpus as a highly significant tool in the field of linguistic research. Even so, its controversial nonetheless, but still fundamental.

These modules developed a plethora of skills, that will be highly useful in my second year.
